Waiting for Robins

The days are longer now.
April, coming soon, will be my 88th.
Not soon enough for me.

From the Latin word aperio, meaning “time to open”.
A time for renewal, change and growth.

New birds have arrived, in flocks,
shoving and pushing for seeds.
Siskins, Crows and other finches bully the winter-feeding birds.
No Robins yet. But soon.

Patches of snow with more falling now,
and nearly a foot expected.
I’m with the Robins – wanting warm sun and rain.
Sooner, rather than later.

Eighty eight Aprils. Many more than expected!

When my first robin is sighted,
I will schedule time in a lake

But not in April.
